Evacuation
Procedures:
|
In an
emergency, the public will be notified by a combination of sirens,
radios, television and public address. Keep Calm. There is a organized
plan to evacuate Long Beach Island if this is necessary.
If you are ordered to take shelter,
secure your residence before you leave. Close all windows and doors;
bring in outside furniture and equipment. Shut off water, electricity,
gas, close all blinds and draperies. Take clothing, medicine, food,
blankets, water, sanitary supplies, portable radio, batteries and
flashlights.
Emergency management officials will
direct traffic towards the Manahawkin Bay Bridge and public shelters.
Watch for blue and white evacuation directional signs. Shelters are at
the following locations- Pinelands Regional High School in Tuckerton,
Southern Regional Middle and High School in Manahawkin and Stockton
State College in Pomona.
INFORMATION:
• Keep your gas tank full
• Do not gamble with the weather if the
advice is to evacuate leave early
• Do not tie up telephone lines, keep
lines free for official use
• Follow instructions from your local
police
• Drive slowly through places where
there may be accumulations of flood water
• As you travel off the island keep
your car radio tuned to WFPG (AM 1450)
•KEEP CALM |
